::Mission & Values:: The University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill has a history of student led actions in defense
of their values. One notable example was the student-led protest of the
speaker ban in the 1960s.(The Speaker Ban Protest) The
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill boldly claims that "with
lux, libertas - light and liberty - as its founding principles, the
University has charted a bold course of leading change to improve
society and to help solve the world's greatest problems." (Mission Statement) Furthermore,
these are the values shared by many students and faculty at the
University. We believe that Mayor Bloomberg, particularly his actions
against the Occupy Movement, contradict the University's founding
principles. |
