The intention of the Alternative Commencement Ceremony is to create a positive and meaningful alternative, in solidarity with the Occupy Movement, for students, families, and the larger community who do not want to support Mayor Bloomberg as the commencement address speaker. The ceremony will happen at the same time as the UNC Chapel Hill Commencement Ceremony for the Graduating Class of 2012 on May 13 at 9:30am at the Forest Theatre in the NC botanical garden at the eastern edge of campus. We invite students, families, and the larger community to join us in celebrating the achievements of the graduating class and their aspirations to build a more equitable, democratic, and community-rich world.
